Who this is for
- Veterans who receive VA disability compensation or a VA pension
- Military retirees with DFAS retired pay or Survivor Benefit Plan payments
- Veterans who separated and moved to a new state
- Veterans with side income or a new business
What we handle
VA disability compensation
It is not taxable and is not reported as income. If part of your retirement pay was waived to receive VA compensation, we make sure only the taxable portion is reported.
DFAS retired pay
Retired pay reported on a DFAS 1099-R is generally taxable at the federal level. We apply the federal treatment and any state subtraction you qualify for.
State residency after service
Leaving service can change which state you file in. We prepare your returns from the residency facts you give us, and point you to your installation legal assistance office for questions about changing your legal residence.
Side income and estimated taxes
A new business or side work means estimated payments. We help you estimate what to pay and when.
Filing in D.C., Maryland, or Virginia?
We prepare federal returns and D.C., Maryland, and Virginia state returns, including part-year and nonresident returns when you live in one place and earn income in another. We prepare returns for other states too. Everything is handled online.
General information, not personalized tax advice. Free help such as MilTax and IRS VITA is available for simple returns. Foundry is the next step when a return needs more time.
